From the Road
We don’t always lease the bus when we go out. Depending on distance, how long we’ll be out, what we can afford, we either lease the bus, rent a passenger van or take the RV that one of the investors owns. So Friday morning we left Mt. Holly at about 11am in the RV. Almost made it to Atlanta when it starting slipping into neutral going down the interstate at 75mph!!.
So we pull off at the next exit and stop at a gas station/convenience store, check the trans fluid (which was fine) and decide the RVs just not going any further.
Grab the local phone book, start making calls and find a Ford dealership one mile from where we were, with a Hertz office on site. We drive the one mile without a problem, but when we were parking, tried to back up and there was no reverse!
So from an hour east of Atlanta to Chattanooga we’re cruising in a Camry and a minivan.
David Lee jumps behind the wheel of the Camry, Keith rides shotgun and I hop in the back and off we go to Chattanooga. The rest of the guys get to cruise in the minivan.
Friday night at Midtown Music Hall was great. Got to see some friends that drove up from Atlanta (how was the rafting, fellas?). Saturday we played American Cycle’s open house. Started at 1pm on a flatbed parked on an asphalt parking lot with no cover. Luckily the guys at American Cycles had us play 30min on and 30min off, which worked out well, but still 4 hours out in the sun and heat was a drain.
We finished at 5pm and at 5:25 the three of us were back in the Toyota headin’ home! And brother Dave got us back to Mt Holly in record time… 4hr 40min!!! Got back to the house at 11pm, in bed by 11:30, up at 6:30 to load the bike in the van and head to the race (that’s another story).
